Vermont BBQ
The sun is shining again in Vermont and who doesn’t want to throw a nice piece of meat on the fire? I mean everybody is doing it. So where do you get your meat? My mother is ever so kind and sends me a big old box of it every Valentines Day… straight from Omaha Steaks.
I am not sure if you’ve had an Omaha Steak, but they are good. The filets cut like butter and have the most unbelievable flavor, with or without seasoning. My friend Mike believes everything should be marinaded, but I am more of a purest, little salt & pepper, medium rare and done. I am offering up a couple of porterhouse steaks to Mike & his fiance this evening… I think there is threat of a marinade, we’ll see who wins that battle.
Looking for local meat? The word is Shelburne Meat Market offers up quality in an old fashion butcher environment. So if you can find it, which I have yet to do, keep it local and grab your next choice grillin meat there. Of course there is always the City Market Co-op, carrying a wide variety of organic meats like Misty Knoll. And I know where it is; right downtown, can’t miss it.
Other favorite grill-ables include sausage and dogs. I am not a fan of the casing that snaps when you bit it; you’ll find me with a ballpark above all other hot dogs. As for sausages, Although I generally stick with my all time favorite, the classic spicy Italian, there is quite a variety out there these days. My new favorites include spicy jalapeƱo chicken sausages and the sun-dried tomato version is also pretty eatable. You can find the fancy sausages at most grocers.
Now if I can just figure out how to do my famous brisket on the grill, we’ll be in business.
